MDC Holdings Reports August Home Orders

M.D.C. Holdings, Inc. (, which builds homes under the name "Richmond American Homes," today announced that it received approximately 710 home orders in August 2000, representing an increase of 38% (26% on a "same store" basis) over the 515 home orders received for the same period in 1999. Home orders in August 2000 particularly were strong in Phoenix and Northern California due to a higher number of active subdivisions and continued strong demand for homes in these markets. The Company has received orders for approximately 5,760 homes for the eight months ended August 31, 2000, an increase of 6% over the 5,448 home orders received for the same period in 1999.
