M.D.C. Holdings Conference Call and Webcast of Fourth Quarter 2004 Results Scheduled for January 13; Distribution Date of Stock Split Rescheduled to January 10

M.D.C. Holdings, Inc. today announced that it plans to release its 2004 fourth quarter and full year earnings after the market closes on Wednesday, January 12, 2005. The Company will broadcast a synchronized slide show and audio presentation over the Internet on Thursday, January 13, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time in conjunction with its conference call. The presentation can be accessed by entering the M.D.C. Holdings, Inc. website, www.RichmondAmerican.com, clicking on "Investors" and selecting "M.D.C. Holdings 2004 Fourth Quarter Conference Call."

To avoid a conflict with this earnings release date, the Company also announced that it has rescheduled the distribution date of its stock split, which will be effected in the form of a 30% stock dividend, announced last week. The distribution will occur on January 10, 2005, rather than January 12 as previously announced, to shareowners of record on December 28, 2004. The Company has confirmed with the New York Stock Exchange that the change in the Company's per share price resulting from the stock split will be reflected on January 11, 2005 (the ex-dividend date).
